Michael Brewer was lit on fire by 5 teenages

This story is truly disgusting. Five teenagers (four of them are 15 and one is just 13 years old) are accused of dousing 15-year-old Michael Brewer with rubbing alcohol and setting him on fire as he sat by a swimming pool at the Lime Tree Village apartments in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The reason for this vicious attack? The day before, Michael stopped these teens from stealing his dad’s bike. So, these teens felt they had the right to light Michael on fire because he wouldn’t let them steal a bike?  Sick!

Prosecutors have filed attempted murder charges against 15-year-old Jesus Mendez and another teen was charged with aggravated battery. Three other teens had already been charged with aggravated battery in the case. All five have been charged as juveniles. According to Broward Sheriff’s Office, all five of the suspects have had run-ins with the law before. Some of the suspects have reportedly confessed to the crime, according to Sgt. Feeley. Police reports even state that two of the boys laughed about the incident.
 
“The victim will be in hospital for five months. He has second degree burns over 80 percent of body. He’s in for a long, long recovery,” said Sheriff Al Lamberti. “The violence in our schools need to stop. I don’t know what the answer is. As parents and leaders we need to do a better job teaching our kids right from wrong.”

This makes me sick. How can a child do this to another child? What are we doing wrong as parents and as society to make these kids think it is O.K. to do something this unthinkable? And just when I think all of these things. The mother of one of the accussed speaks…

The mother of one of the teens, Hollis, has said she didn’t think her son had anything to do with it. “As far as I know, no he didn’t,” she said. “Wrong place at the wrong time.”

Are you kidding me? How do you explain the eye witnesses who saw all this happen? This is what is wrong! Parents need to make their children be accountable for their own actions. This should be taught at a young age, when they should be taught right from wrong.

Reports have said that the victim is out of the woods now. This is not true. The doctor spoke today and said the worst is yet to come. For burn victims it is so incredibly painful and he will be hospitalized for at least the next 5 months. And there is still a huge risk of his vital organs shutting down. This child could still die from the result of this attack. Would prosecutors change their mind then and charge them as adults for murder? Or will they just take the word from the mother…. “wasn’t my son”…..and look the other way? My guess is…not the latter.

My thoughts and prayers are with this boy and his family.

Today was court day for the reality T.V. stars Jon and Kate Gosselin.  The couple share eight young children - one set of twins and sextuplets. Court today was not about the divorce, not about the kids, but about money. (Big shock!)

Things are not looking so well for Jon. After several T.V. interviews with him stating that he only withdrew $22,000 from their joint bank account, the judge has ordered him to return $180,000 in marital funds by October 26, or face contempt charges for violating an arbitrator’s order according to Mark Momjian, Kate’s attorney. Momjian also stated that Kate,  must provide an accounting of past expenses by the same date. An arbitrator will review another $55,000 she says she spent on household and child-related expenses.

A statement from Kate released by her attorney stated, “As difficult as this has been for me, I am pleased that the court has ruled fairly on behalf of myself and my children. Now that this matter has been ruled on, I look forward to returning to private arbitration, as we have agreed to do, to resolve any remaining issues.”

Jon Gosselin’s lawyer, Mark Jay Heller, also released a statement saying there was no proof that the $55,000 was used for family expenses. “It may very well be determined that very substantial sums of money which Kate has failed to account for might have been misapplied and misused by Kate,” Heller said.

I am wondering where Jon is going to get the money that the judge has ordered him to return? I am betting that he blew it all on his fancy new cars, new bachelor pad, fabulous trips, women, women, wine, and more women.  To make matters even worse, Jon doesn’t even have a job. Jon Gosselin recently sent the network, TLC, a cease-and-desist letter, saying he believes the filming is harmful to the children. Hmmmm interesting that he thinks that NOW. After TLC renamed the show “Kate Plus Eight”.  October 26th will be interesting.

What an incredible story to follow. Jaycee and her two daughters ages 15 and 11 (who she had with her kidnapper) are said to be reunited with Jaycee’s mother. There has not been any public appearances. I am glad they are getting some time to be alone, talk about the last 18 years, and cry. Can you imagine what the conversation would be? So much to talk about. 18 years. Does Jaycee remember her school classmates from when she was 11 years old? What does she remember about her parents, her home, her family? The day she was taken? What has she been thinking all these years? Did she think her parents stopped looking for her? What a joy that she is alive, but what sorrow for what she and her parents went through.

There are reports that she suffers from “Stockholm Syndrome”.  This is a condition that develops after the initial feelings of terror and confusion wear off and involves the victim building a positive bond/relationship with their kidnapper as a way to cope with the trauma of being held captive. Instead of feeling anger and hating the person who has abducted them, they come to empathise with them and view the outside world as the enemy. Jaycee’s stepfather made comments to the press suggesting that Jaycee has guilty feelings of  forming a bond with her kidnapper.

Jaycee’s grandmother Wilma Probyn, age 83, claims that is the only reason that her granddaughter is still alive, because she did bond with the kidnapper.

No doubt about it, this story is taking on all kinds of twists and turns. Now, the FBI have said they are checking into many murders of prostitutes in the area, possibly Jaycee’s abductor is also a serial killer!??

How lucky we are…..to have and know where our children are right now. The knowledge that they are safe. Pray for those families that still don’t know, that don’t have answers….and now, because of Jaycee Dugard, maybe some of those families have more hope then ever before.

What an unbelievable story! How amazing! What joy….she has been found and she is alive! But how can your stomach not be tied in knots and feel the real sickness of the life she has had? So sad and disgusting to hear about the abuse she went through.

Laws need to be changed. Sex offenders need to be locked up for GOOD! They prove to all the communities in this world, that they WILL offend again. Our children are not safe with these sick freaks out there. As parents….this is our worst nightmare…and it must STOP! We need to protect our children from these people.

As neighbors, we need to always be watching. You can’t feel like “this is none of my business”. If you have questions or concerns, you need to call and report. And the most important thing….you MUST follow UP!! Make sure something was done….make sure the police checked on your concern. In Jaycee Dugard’s case, a neighbor DID call the police, complaining of children living in tents in her neighbors backyard. The police went to the home and spoke with the abductor and sexual predator, not even checking the backyard. BIG mistakes were obviously made! I am glad that the police are taking responsibility for this now, but things need to change! We need laws with ZERO tolerance for these people. You hurt our children ONCE….you go to jail…..you die in jail….you DON’T get a second, third, or fourth chance.

This trip is to take approximately two years. TWO years! She is going to be completely alone and in the ocean. I don’t care what the parents say. How mature she is or how great and successful she would be. Bottom line is…she is 13 years old. She is not mature enough to be alone in the ocean dealing with everyday life…..let alone dealing with all of the dangers of the ocean (storms, sharks, pirates, to name a FEW!) It is an insane thought. What about her education? What about school? She won’t have her parents around her…to protect, love, support, and encourage her. And she won’t have any peers. Have her parents even stopped to think how this will affect her psychologically? Here is another thought….what if she dies?

Some people are saying “the government should stay out of it” “let the parents decide” “let the child follow her dreams”. REALLY? Bottom line is ANYONE can be a parent. ANYONE! As a parent, it is our #1 job to protect our children. When parents have their own agenda and not the best interest of their children (maybe they want the recognition, maybe they want to re-live their childhood through their child), we need laws to protect these children. What do people really think? That there should be no rules, no laws, just complete chaos? Everyone should be able to do what they want without any consequences, care, or concern for others?

I think it is great to have dreams and encourage our children to go after them, but when you are 13 and the risks are so extreme….this goes beyond crazy. And I for one, am glad to see the Dutch government get involved and protect this child.
